The Byram Township Historical Society works to preserve and share the history of Byram Township, New Jersey.
Our work goes beyond collecting old photographs and documents. We help care for historic places, research local history, support educational programs and create opportunities for people to experience the stories of Byram firsthand.
Through exhibits, presentations, community events and partnerships, BTHS helps keep local history visible and accessible. We also encourage residents and visitors to explore the people, places and events that shaped the township.
Preserving Byram’s Historic Places
BTHS helps maintain two important historic resources in the township.
Roseville School House Museum
Located at 10 Mansfield Drive, the 1889 Roseville School House serves as a local history museum and a place for programs, exhibits and community activities. Tours are available by appointment.
Lockwood Cemetery
Located along Route 206 near Lake Lackawanna Drive, Lockwood Cemetery is another part of Byram’s historic landscape cared for by the Society.
Bringing Local History to the Community
BTHS hosts and participates in programs throughout the year. Some focus directly on Byram history, while others explore the wider history of Sussex County and New Jersey.
Programs may include guest speakers, historical presentations, tours, commemorations, community events and special projects. The Society also works with local organizations, historic sites and volunteers to bring history into the community. Regular meetings often feature guest speakers discussing topics connected to the history of Sussex County.

Preserving local history depends on people who are willing to participate. Members, volunteers, donors and community partners all help BTHS continue its work.
Volunteers may assist with events, research, photographs, collections and other Society activities.
